I have been the acting Secretary of the UMCA Board for the past two years, and an active member of the UMCA since 2001. For five consecutive years, from 2002-2006, I was the top female in the JMC competition, participating in eight races each year, traveling and making friends in the US, Canada and Europe.
STATEMENT
AS A BOARD MEMBER, I WILL BE COMMITTED TO HELPING EACH MEMBER REACH HIS OR HER PERSONAL POTENTIAL, BY OFFERING A WIDE VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AND POSSIBILITIES, AND MAKE PERSONAL CONTACT WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

Favorite hobby: Working with grandchildren and friends,
Teaching others to love the sport.
Riding with old and new friends, and helping each to achieve a personal goal. At every event, I try to encourage and support all cyclists, and have often helped someone having a bad moment make it through without a DNF

Contributing member
In 2002 I began to contribute to the UMCA by writing up race reports for the UMCA magazine. For several years, I became a regular contributor to the UMCA magazine, with my personal column, NANCY'S NOTES, running in every issue. Through attending many UMCA races and writing my column, I met many cyclists and encouraged females to take a more active participatory role in our ultracycling community, and have developed cycling friends around the globe.
Familiar with Issues and Challenges
I am very familiar with the issues and responsibilities of the UMCA as a growing organization, as we expand our community internationally, as well as seeking a more diverse representation. Serving as secretary the last two years, I have a great appreciation for the issues that face us as a growing organization, and I feel my experience can assist new board members, as well as continue to support seasoned board members. In my profession (professor and literacy supervisor), I make many presentations and I author publications, nationally and internationally. I work directly with local and state educational boards, and I am a contributing member of an international board. My professional experiences enhance my work with the UMCA board as we continue to reach out globally.

My passion is ultra riding and ultra racing, 12 hour, 24 hour, 1200 k an all distances in between. I am committed to getting more women involved, more participation from all levels and ages of cyclists, including recruiting our military cyclists as members. I do believe both females and our military have the endurance it requires, and can be involved despite job and home responsibilities. I believe it is a great family sport, a wonderful way to see the world with cycling friends and friendly competitors. I am a literacy professor and educational supervisor, mother of four and grandmother of three. I view being a member of the UMCA governing board as a way I can give back to the sport of Ultracycling that has given me so many hours of friendly recreation while seeing the world from a bicycle seat.
Personal Goal
Continue to ride daily, stay in good cycling shape so my husband and I can be on an over 60 RAAM team, (with our children and grandchildren crewing)

The bridge to Brest, and the only hour of sunshine for that 1200 kilometers
It's always sunny when you're with your best cycling buddy!
