(W) - Whoís Who - top 5 Platinum riders in each division (plaque)
WHOíS WHO STANDARD WHOíS WHO CENTURY WHOíS WHO OPEN CENTURY WHOíS WHO OPEN STANDARD YEAR ROUNDERS TOTALS & TRENDS - In the standings totals above, you can see this yearís totals compared with 1999ís and draw some conclusions. In addition:
Rider Notes UMCí01 IN REVIEW - The UMC had essentially the same number of participants as last year - one fewer, to be precise. (Susan Notorangelo did not participate this year - a coincidental fact?) Last year we inaugurated the immediately popular Open Century division. As you see from total statistics alone, the Open Century division has become a veritable Charybdis of miles, drawing the high mileage riders into it. OPEN DIVISION THANKS - We would certainly like to thank David BUZZEE for running the Open Standard division and Don NORVELLE for running the Open Century division. As you can see, their workload has taken a big jump this past year, and they have responded to the challenge! BREVETS AND RANDONNÉES - Though this wasnít Paris-Brest-Paris year, brevet participation climbed an impressive 29% increase over 2000). 1200km/1400km RandonnÈe participation looks very similar to 2000 - reflecting Boston-MontrÈal-Boston this year and last; and London-Edinburgh-London this year versus the Rocky Mountain 1200km last year. Note that both LEL riders - Rudy Hewitt and Jim Trout - did the 1400km option! (No submissions came in for the inaugural California Gold Rush RandonnÈe or the Colorado Last Chance RandonnÈe.) YEAR ROUNDER - The trial -Year Rounder- category - cyclists with at least one UMC ride in each calendar month - ended up populated by 10 of the 11 Whoís Who, cyclists whose -year rounder- status was essentially a by-product of their normal riding. YEAR-END RIDING Crista BORRAS and Chuck WOOD ran their ever-popular Tingling Toes, Freezing Flanks, Flabby Fannies and Bulbous Bellies December Dirt Ride - perfect for this season! And Crista and Chuck were joined by Rudy HEWITT and Richard DOLAN in Way-Far-Out in Wild-Wonderful-West-By-God-Virginia. Open Centuries - Barclay BROWN (1), Dan DRISCOLL (1), John Lee ELLIS (2), James HANSON (4), and Luc VIAU (1). Open Standard - John Lee ELLIS (1) and Luc VIAU (4) - including a 230-mile ultra-marathon effort near the shortest day of the year. Thanks to you all once again for sharing your rides with us this past year - and all the best to you for a great cycling season in 2002! Questions? ![]() |
