Rider Notes WHOíS WHO STANDARD WHOíS WHO CENTURY WHOíS WHO OPEN CENTURY WHOíS WHO OPEN STANDARD UMC'02 IN REVIEW - UMC ridership grew slightly over last year, but the mileage per rider and the number of riders exceeding 3000 miles (Gold level) has decreased. OPEN RIDES ASCENDENCY - The dramatic increase continues in open-division mileage and their proportion in the combined mileage (35%, up from 21% in 2001). To some extent this is influenced by the Luc Viau's and Larry Schwartz's high mileages, but we also see some long-time veterans, such as John Bailey, converting over to the Open format. OPEN DIVISION THANKS! - We would especially like to thank David BUZZEE for running the Open Standard division and Don NORVELLE for running the Open Century division. As the Open divisions now contribute a third of the overall mileage, they have a big job to do! BREVETS AND RANDONNÉES - UMC participation remained at recent high levels - stats to follow. YEAR-END RIDING Snow forced Crista BORRAS and Chuck WOOD to defer into the next UMC year their ever-popular Tingling Toes, Freezing Flanks, Flabby Fannies and Bulbous Bellies December Dirt Ride. However, Crista and Chuck were able to end the year with Dr. Disc's Century of Centuries joined by Keith KROMBEL and Dave WHITAKER. Al EMMA and Woody GRAHAM both showed up at (and rode) the "Round the Islands in St. John's Island SC" century. Open Centuries - James HANSON (1), Ralph PRUITT (2), and Larry SCHWARTZ (9). Open Standard - John Lee ELLIS (1). Thanks to you all once again for sharing your rides with us this past year - and all the best to you for a great cycling season in 2003! Questions? ![]() |
