stories, through each rider’s ups and downs, personal challenges and triumphs,

Following the standings list are the Who’s Who, some interesting UMC statistics, and some
year-end riding. Here is a recap of award levels:

UMC'04 IN REVIEW - The number of riders remained consistent, but
per-capita mileage increased as did the number of Platinum-level and especially Gold-level
riders. Brevet mileage declined a bit, perhaps in part because 2003 was a PBP year.
A third of this year's riders were new to the Mileage Challenge, including a number who
reached Platinum level and Who's Who.
OPEN DIVISION THANKS! - A big thanks to David BUZZEE for
handling the Open Standard division and Don NORVELLE for the Open Century division.
YEAR-END RIDING -
Woody GRAHAM rode the Festivelo de Charleston and the Salem Crossroads Century.
Jim KEHR and Mark DEGER rode the Death Valley Double.
DC Hub - Crista BORRAS and Chuck WOOD rode In Search of the
Brandenburg Gate, Mountain Mission, Over the Hill with Doctor Disc, and the
Berryville Century. They were joined variously by Keith KROMBEL, Tom REEDER,
Chris MENTO, and Rudy HEWITT. Rudy also led and rode Over the Hill with Doctor Disc.
New England Hub - Russ LOOMIS rode 3 of his hub rides with
Garrett LOOMIS, including the "This and That Ride."
RANDONNÉES - Permanents: Russell KELLEY rode the Lynn Creek Marina B (Grand Prairie TX).
OPEN CENTURIES - Larry AUGENSTEIN (1), John BAILEY (3),
Wade BAKER (4), Kerry BOES (3), John Lee ELLIS (2), Christopher KAISER (2),
Kevin KAISER (4), Russell KELLEY (4), Jim KEHR (1), Ray SPOONER (2), Cary WAY (1),
Paul ZBIEK (1).
OPEN STANDARD - John Lee ELLIS (1).
We welcome Garrett LOOMIS, son of UMC luminary Russ Loomis, to the Mileage Challenge!
Go out and enjoy these shorter but at times magical days.
